NBC's TV schedule in 1985-86 was dominated by sitcoms. NBC preempted regular Saturday programming six time during the season. It also preempted four different specials. One was a preempted NBC News White Paper. Jane Paulet was also present. Another was the 1985 Miss America pageant. NBC did not often preempt regular Saturday programming. Instead, they focused more on sitcoms than dramas.

NBC's Thursday night lineup was much more stable than its Saturday schedule. NBC, however, was unable overcome CBS's lineup for Thursday nights. The Dukes of Hazzard anchored CBS's lineup.
