NASCAR History

formula 1 races

NASCAR history doesn't just include the first driver of a stock-car car. It is also possible to think about the Prohibition era moonshine production. The races that were held on Daytona's beaches. You can even see how the rules have changed in 1949.

NASCAR’s first driver

Glenn "Fireball", Roberts, was NASCAR's very first driver. He was a physical wonder and won nine major races in big racetracks. He was also the first driver and owner of the championship to win it in 1951. Roberts' athletic talent was unmatched, and he won the championship over Junior Johnson, Richard Petty, Ned Jarrett, and Richard Petty. Charlie Harvell, a sportswriter, wrote a famous poem about Roberts' tragic death at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Drivers' ancestors made moonshine in the days of Prohibition

Over the period of the nineteenth century, American citizens' perceptions about moonshine production shifted. The production of moonshine wasn't illegal a century after the Whiskey Rebellion. The product was actually taxed, and its widespread consumption was regulated under the federal government. In combination with media coverage, the dispute between moonshiners & tax collectors led to an increase in illegal liquor gang mentality, which continued well into Prohibition.

Daytona beach races

Trevor Bayne, the driver of No. 21 Ford Fusion and raced on the beach of Daytona Beach, Florida. While he is not even old enough to rent a car, he is only two years older than Jeff Gordon. These races at the beach are an important part of NASCAR’s history. The track was originally intended to be a beach-road course. But NASCAR moved it south to Ponce Inlet. The 4.1-mile beach course opened in 1948 and featured both cars and motorcycles. Racers like Curtis Turner, Lee Petty, Sam Packard or Bob Keselowski showed their automotive genius on sand.

Rules changes since 1949

NASCAR has experienced a lot of change since its inception, which was in 1949. To protect drivers and their fans, the rules of stock cars have been revised. For example, NASCAR has made it mandatory for drivers to wear a head and neck restraint, called the HANS Device. The HANS Device is required for pit crew members. They also require that cars seats and helmets made from carbon fiber be worn. The car's appearance has also changed. For example, the front and rear colors cannot be the same color. However, this safety rule has been brought into focus after the death of Dale Earnhardt in 2001.

Drivers' racial discrimination lawsuit

A racial discrimination case against NASCAR by drivers is being filed in New York federal court. The suit alleges racial discrimination. It seeks $425 million in punitive and compensatory damages. If the suit succeeds, the money would be given to organizations that promote minorities participation in motorsports.

Safety measures

SAFER barriers have been a significant step forward in safer racing. These barriers use foam wedges to deflect kinetic energy as the car hits them. This design greatly reduces peak accelerations of the car hitting them.
