Audi, BMW Mercedes-Benz and Opel Compete in DTM Race

Opel is one of the many car manufacturers that has participated in DTM. You might not have known the latter until now. In 2012, the German manufacturer will be joining the series.

Audi

Audi confirmed it will enter the DTM race series in 2013 with a new R18. The company has spent more than two and a half years developing the engine, and has spent more than 1,000 hours on the dynamometer. Audi's new engine will make it possible to compete in DTM, a highly competitive class. It will also allow Audi to challenge rivals such as BMW or Aston Martin. There are 18 DTM races across nine weekends in Germany.

Mercedes-Benz

The 1987 season was an interesting one for Mercedes-Benz. The team's turbocharged engine made up nearly half of the car's power. Mercedes received an air restriction, instead of a penalty weight. BMW

The BMW DTM race cars can be built in two locations. The Garching plant is the first. The Dingolfing plant is next, where the M4 race cars will be built in accordance with GT3 regulations. These cars will be competing in the DTM. The last two plants are located in Regensburg, Germany. The safety cells are built in Regensburg. Assembly begins in Garching. In September, the FIA homologates race cars.

Opel

Opel Vectra GTS V8, will make its DTM debut in this year's new race series. Opel motorsport director Volker Strycek is also behind this car, which will be raced in the Nurburgring. Strycek won the DTM championship in 1984 and was the Nurburgring 24-hour race winner in 2003. He also drove Opel Astra V8 Coupe and Vectra GTS V8.

Mercedes-Benz CLK-GTR GT1-class sports car

The CLK-GTR (road-going version) of the acclaimed GT1-class Mercedes-Benz. The car was built in four months between winter 1996-1997. The McLaren F1 GTR was intended to compete with this project. The team worked for over one hundred, eighty days to design, build, and test the car.
