What length are NASCAR Races for?

austin formula 1

NASCAR races last from just a few minutes up to over three and a quarter hours. This is a result of various racing delays and the actual race itself. Each stage of a race will have a different length. A short track race will have a shorter time than a longer track while an intermediate track race will take longer.

Listen to the short tracks

The short track is a track that has a shorter distance than a full mile, but is a good match for a NASCAR race. Short tracks offer many advantages. They can hold larger crowds. Bristol Motor Speedway for instance is almost one mile long. It has a banked turn of 36 degrees and is the first official stock-car track to use concrete surfaces. It can host more than 160,000 spectators.

NASCAR's short tracks have been the backbone for many exciting races. Unfortunately, many of these tracks have gone out of favor in recent years. The Richmond race was a tire battle that featured four cautions, two stages breaks and multiple green-flag stoppages. Martinsville race had five lead-changes and four cautions. Although these tracks aren't the most clean in NASCAR race, they do have the advantage of being action-packed and enhancing the entertainment value of NASCAR events.

Intermediate races

The intermediate race track is a short track that is usually 1.5 miles long. The track's layout allows for tight racing but also allows smaller teams the opportunity to race at the front. The Atlanta Motor Speedway has a new layout that adds excitement to the event. The new layout offers more options for fans and allows cars to be more competitive.

NASCAR offers four types of tracks: superspeedways, intermediate tracks and short tracks. These tracks are length-based, so race cars can accelerate faster on them. Short tracks are considered the most challenging to drive. Some notable short tracks are Bristol, Tennessee, and Ridgeway, Virginia.
