FAQ

What's the difference between a race car and a road car?

A road car is designed to be driven on public roads. Race cars are specifically designed for competitions like car racing. These cars have aerodynamic features that allow them to accelerate quickly and brake very sharply.

What is the average race duration?

Different races have different lengths.

You can take part in endurance races for many days.

Other races, like sprint races, are shorter.

What kind of cars are used for racing cars?

Speed is the most important aspect for any race car driver. It is what makes them go fast. They have to be quick enough to catch up to other drivers but also strong enough to hold on to the lead. They can pass other drivers at high speeds, then pull away when they aren't looking. This gives them an advantage in racing.

Lightweight cars are often the fastest. This allows them speed up quickly and to gain lots of speed. This also means that they have less power, which restricts how far they are able to travel in a short time. They must make use of their energy efficiently.

Engines power most modern-day racing cars. These engines are identical to those used in passenger vehicles. These engines run on compressed gas instead of petrol. This is because petrol can't provide enough power for a car to go fast.

How many different types of car racing are there?

There are two main categories of car racing: open-wheel and closed-wheel. IndyCar is one of the open wheel races. Closed wheel races include Formula 3000, DTM, GP2, etc.

Are there rules about how a racecar should look?

No. Race car designers design the cars however they please.

However, they must follow certain safety standards.
