Shortest Track in NASCAR

racing titles

What is the fastest track in NASCAR racing? This is a tricky question. Although the answer is possible to both sides, I'll suggest the Iowa Speedway as the shortest track. Here's why. South Boston Speedway hosted Truck races and Xfinity races in 1982. It will also debut the SRX Series by 2022. A double-header Truck-SRX race is sure to be a hit with the crowd.

Martinsville Speedway

Martinsville Speedway was the first NASCAR track to be established in 1948. This Virginia track has been hosting NASCAR races every year since 1948. It is best known for its pink hotdogs, grandfather clock, and other unique features. Martinsville oval also remains in use as the oldest NASCAR circuit. You can read more about the historic track. Check out these fun facts about Martinsville Speedway.

The shortest track in NASCAR has some of the most iconic drivers in NASCAR history. Drivers with at least one Martinsville Cup championship have captured the majority of the top five finishes in all Martinsville Cup races. Drivers with multiple championships include Richard Petty and Jimmie Johnson, who own nearly every major Martinsville Cup record. Many winners have been crowned at the 200 Cup Series' shortest track, which has seen NASCAR produce many more winners, including Richard Petty who holds the all time win and top five record.

Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway

Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway is located in Brownsburg, Indiana, ten miles west of Downtown Indianapolis. This auto racing venue features an oval track that is 0.686 miles long, a 2.5-mile road course, and a 4,400-foot drag strip. It is one the most prestigious drag racing venues worldwide. It's a popular place for racing fans all over the globe because of its relatively short length.

The Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway can be found seven miles away from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the world's most renowned racing venue. The Lucas Oil Raceway hosts some the most exciting NASCAR racing events, including the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. It also has the NASCAR World Series of Racing's shortest track. However, this track is the most popular of the three Indianapolis tracks.

Los Angeles Coliseum

The Los Angeles Coliseum NASCAR race track will be open for business on the first day, February 6. Previously, the Coliseum was the home of supercross motorcycle races, speedway events, off-road truck races, rallycross events, and X Games. With a capacity for 60,000, it is also the shortest NASCAR track. It will take place over two days with practice heats and qualifying on Saturday, followed by the main event on Sunday, at 3:00 p.m. California Time.

In addition to its small dimensions, the Coliseum also has numerous safety features. For example, concrete barriers that absorb car impact and direct energy towards the outside walls. This is crucial in such a small venue where 23 cars can rev up simultaneously on a quarter mile track. It hosts the "Clash at the Coliseum," a popular NASCAR event.

Iowa Speedway

Iowa Speedway is NASCAR's fastest short track. Rusty Wallace, former NASCAR Champion, designed this 7/8-mile oval track. Wallace is now the anchor of both ABC-TV's and ESPN's ESPN. The track's infield road course is 7/16ths of a mile long, offering the drivers sweeping turns that make for a fun road racing experience.

Two levels of seating are available to accommodate up to 30,000. The start-finish line is near the lower 100-level seats. The upper 200-level seats are closer to the entry to turns 1 and 4. All seats offer spectacular views of the track and drivers. A few races at Iowa have been cancelled due to low attendance. But it's nothing when compared to the excitement that comes with a Cup Series race at Iowa.
